Sambar Recipe

Sambar is a popular South Indian dish made with toor dal and a variety of vegetables. Here’s a simple recipe to make Sambar at home:

Ingredient:

Collect the following ingredients from your daily kitchen food.

Soaking Process:

First of all, soak the toor dal for an hour. Then, wash it thoroughly with water just before preparing the Sambar dish.

Cooking Process:

In a pressure cooker, add 2 tbsp. of oil, then add mustard seeds and ½ teaspoon of cumin seeds. Add 1 chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent, not golden brown. Now, add 2 chopped tomatoes. Stir continuously for a few seconds, then add 1 inch of grated ginger, 2 chopped green chilies, ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder, ½ teaspoon of red chili powder, and salt to taste. Mix well. Then, add a pinch of asafoetida (hing). Next, add all the chopped vegetables and 2 tablespoons of sambar powder. Mix well. Now, add the soaked and rinsed toor dal. Stir continuously for 2 to 3 minutes. Then, add a sufficient amount of water just before closing the pressure cooker. Close the pressure cooker and wait for 2 whistles only. After 2 whistles, cook over a low flame for 10 minutes.

Tadka Process:

To make the tadka in unique style, add 1 tablespoon of oil to a frying pan. Then add ½ teaspoon of mustard seeds to the hot oil and let them splutter to infuse flavor. Next, add 10-12 chopped curry leaves, 2 dry red chilies, ½ teaspoon of red chili powder, and 1 teaspoon of sambar powder. Finally, add 1 tablespoon of tamarind paste to give tangy taste.

Adding Flavor:

Now, add the tadka masala to the sambar dish and mix well.

Garnishing:

Garnish your sambar dish with fresh coriander leaves.

Serving Process:

Serve your hot sambar in a serving bowl and enjoy this delicious dish with dosa, naan, chapati, or rice.
